If somebody wants to stop their investment plan what options are available?
There are many options.
Keep investing if it makes sense to do so.
Stop investing.
Surrender.
Change plans or investment providers.
Surrender is the option that needs the most careful consideration!
The shorter term the plan the lower the surrender charges. The closer to maturity the lower the surrender charges are.
If you stop 5 years into a 25 year plan the surrender penalties will be ridiculously high and most likely not worth while.
If you stopped 20 years into a 25 year plan they could be low and it could make sense.
Yet even 1 year from maturity surrender penalties could be as high as 4%!
Another option is a partial surrender. Leave the expressive initial period as it is and make the rest work harder.
All options will need to be studied to work out the best course of action. We can help you here.
